Follow the step by step video or directions below to create a Mexican Folk Art inspired mirror!

What is Folk Art? Folk Art is created everywhere because it is artwork made by untrained and anonymous artists. Mexican Folk Art mirrors are usually made with tin materials by local untrained artists who create designs around the mirror’s edge. Mexican artists use a lot of bright and bold colors in their unique designs.

Materials:

  • Construction paper
  • Paper plate
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Tinfoil
  • Circular object to trace
  • Sharpies (optional)

Directions:

Step 1: Find a flat circular object in your house, set it on top of the tinfoil and use a pencil to trace around the object. Then, cut out the tinfoil circle

Step 2: Glue the cut out tinfoil circle in the center of the paper plate

Step 3: Use the scissors to cut out different shapes (circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, hearts), then glue your shapes to the paper plate. Maybe you want to arrange your shapes into a specific pattern!

Step 4: Now it’s time to decorate! Use your markers and/or Sharpies (optional) to decorate your shapes and paper plate.
