Need an easy, fun, and creative activity to enhance your child(ren)’s early literacy and discussion skills?

Collage It Out:

Materials Needed:

  • paper, glue stick, and magazines/ads.

Ways to Read and Discuss with your child(ren).

  • Go through a magazine or ads, cutting out items for a collage. Before you begin, select a category to “hunt” for like, things that are green, or foods, or clothing. As you look together, discuss what you are finding and how it fits into your category (or Not!).
  • After your child(ren) have cut out different images or words that fit the theme, make a collage. This is a fun, easy, and interactive way to help them make connections and notice how print and pictures go together.

What is the purpose of the activity?

  • To help build basic skills that help prepare children for kindergarten.

Why is it important?

  • This helps your child develop early literacy  skills
  • It  provides an opportunity to practice cutting to build hand coordination and motor skills.

Remember: If they see you playing, then they will play. It makes kids want to join in on the fun.
