Do you love dinos? We sure do! This fun activity will turn ever child into a paleontologist!
Salt Dough Dinosaur Fossils
Materials
- 2 1/2 Cups of All Purpose Flour or Gluten Free Flour
- 1 Cup Salt
- 1 Cup Warm Water
- Deep pan or box
- Dirt, sand, beads, or another material to “bury” the bones
- Paint brushes (old tooth brushes work too!)
Directions
- Have an adult preheat the oven to 200° Fahrenheit
- In a large bowl combine 2 cups flour, salt, and warm water. Mix ingredients with a large spoon (or your hands!). If the mixture is sticky, slowly add the remaining 1/2 cup flour.
- After mixing, arrange your dough into desired shapes directly on a cookie sheet or make imprints of dinosaur toys in the dough. (Hint: What other shapes can you make? Repeat this activity for other interests as well!)
- Bake “fossils” or imprints for 1 hour or until hard. Have your adult remove the salt dough fossils and let cool completely before touching.
- Play with your fossils outside in the dirt or have an adult hide them around the house or bury them in a box or pan for you to search for- just like a real dino-discovery excavation!
